The Estonian conductor Olari Elts works with such orchestras as the Orchestre National de France, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. During his concerts he likes to combine classical works with music by contemporary authors and this will be no different in Prague.
He has invited in renowned Finnish clarinettist Kari Kriikku, with whom he will present the world premiere of a new piece by Ondřej Štochl. A Czech composer, primarily the author of chamber works characterised by extremely colourful instrumentation and meditative movements, who was directly commissioned by PRSO to create a composition for the clarinet and the orchestra.
The evening will open up with one of the most famous works of French Impressionism, Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun. After the break, the evening will continue with Scandinavian music. Following an orchestral miniature dedicated to Jean Sibelius, created by Elts's compatriot, Erkki-Sven Tüür, the programme will finish with a performance of Sibelius's Symphony No. 1.
