Tomáš Jamník and Robert Kružík with the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra at Rudolfinum

7. říjen 2025

The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra invites listeners to a concert on Monday, 13 October 2025, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dvořák Hall of Prague’s Rudolfinum.

The evening will honor two prominent figures of Czech music – composers Jindřich Feld and Josef Suk. On the occasion of Jindřich Feld’s 100th birthday, his Cello Concerto will be performed. The soloist will be cellist Tomáš Jamník, a respected interpreter of both classical and contemporary repertoire, who is also known for initiating numerous creative projects in chamber music and music education. Feld’s 1958 Cello Concerto is among his most significant works, combining virtuosic demands with deep emotional expression, showcasing the composer’s neoclassical, melodically accessible style.

The second half of the evening will feature Josef Suk’s Asrael Symphony. This monumental work was composed in response to the death of Antonín Dvořák and, shortly afterward, Suk’s own wife, Otilka. Named after the angel of death, the symphony is considered a pinnacle of Czech symphonic writing. Its dramatic intensity and emotional depth convey the struggle with fate, grief, and eventual reconciliation, offering both catharsis and hope. The orchestra will be conducted by Robert Kružík, chief conductor of the Zlín Philharmonic and the Janáček Opera in Brno, returning to the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra after a successful collaboration at the Prague Spring Festival in 2020.

The concert can be heard live on ČRo Vltava, with a recording broadcast on ČRo D-dur on 15 October at 8:00 p.m.
