This concert with Principal Guest Conductor Marek Šedivý promises French esprit. To start off we will hear the Oboe Concerto of Henri Tomasi, who made a name for himself primarily as an author of music for wind instruments. The solo will be performed by the PRSO oboe section leader Zdeněk Rys. The next item on the programme will serve up the music of two members of the Paris Six. Violinist of international renown Martina Bačová will perform the poetic, just ten-minute-long yet virtuosically conceived Violin Concerto No. 1 by Darius Milhaud. The evening will close with the neoclassical Sinfonietta by Francis Poulenc, one of the composer's few purely orchestral concert works, otherwise having been famed as an author of songs and piano music.
