German Requiem – alternative date

20. červen 2022

Rudolfinum, 20 June 2022 at 7:30 p.m.

Dear listeners,

we have found a new alternative date for the cancelled concert on 24 January 2022. We will present the concert on Monday, 20 June 2022 at the Rudolfinum at 7:30 pm. Due to the demanding nature of the cast, we have had to make changes to the programme. The opening piece by Witold Lutoslawski remains unchanged in the programme. Instead of Johannes Brahms' German Requiem, we will hear Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major. We will try to include the German Requiem in the programme of another concert season.

Tickets from the previous date remain valid, no need to exchange them.
Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to further musical experiences.

Your PRSO

This extraordinary June concert will bring together the works of Witodl Lutosławski and Ludwig van Beethoven. The work of the former, a major Polish classical composer of the 20th century, was widely performed and recorded by Alexander Liebreich when he became head of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio in Katowice.

Alban Gerhardt

This time he has invited his regular artistic partner Alban Gerhardt, a German cellist who has worked with some of the world's finest orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Chicago Symphony. Gerhardt will perform the solo part of Witold Lutosławski's masterful Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, composed in 1970 for the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich. After the intermission, one of Beethoven's most popular works, Symphony No. 7 in A major, sometimes called the "apotheosis of dance" for its concise rhythmic ideas, will be performed. The German composer began working on the work while staying at a spa in the northern Bohemian town of Teplice.
