As the curator of jazz projects under the PRSO series "New Horizons", I am glad that we managed to push for and arrange a concert by the amazing E.S.T. Symphony project. It is comprised of pivotal recordings by the trio of Swedish jazz pianist Esbjörn Svensson (1964–2008). The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra recorded it in 2016 and it came out on CD on the renowned label ACT Music. All the music was arranged and conducted by Hans Ek. The programming of the individual parts of the suite includes essential E.S.T. works such as From Gagarin’s Point of View, Seven Days of Falling and Serenade for the Renegade.
During the first decade of the new millennium, E.S.T. was considered without exaggeration to be the most progressive and most inspirational ensemble not only on the European scene, but also globally. They gained considerable popularity with Czech audiences as well, in part via their own recordings, about which there was intense discussion in the Czech jazz community, but also through their unforgettable concerts full of energy.
It is a great musical event that we managed to realise this unique project, which conductor and arranger Hans Ek will come to conduct in person. Also present will be bass player Dan Berglund and drummer Mangus Öström, both the original bandmates of pianist Esbjörn Svensson and authors of this music.
This evening will see an exceptional intertwining of world-class musicians and prominent figures of the Czech jazz scene.
