PRSO Nominated for the Anděl Awards
The shortlists for this year's Anděl Awards have been announced, and PRSO has received three nominations
In the Classical category, the CD Má vlast, featuring Bedřich Smetana’s symphonic work, and Forgotten Czech Piano Concertos have been nominated. In the Jazz category, Jaromír Honzák’s album The Blues of a String Hanging in the Wind has been nominated. This recording captures a live concert with PRSO at DOX Prague.
Má vlast, on which PRSO and its chief conductor Petr Popelka worked for two years, presents a new interpretation of what is undoubtedly Bedřich Smetana’s most famous work. The CD has received glowing reviews both internationally and domestically—and deservedly so. Popelka brings a fresh and innovative perspective to this monumental composition.
In Forgotten Czech Piano Concertos, composer and organist Marek Kozák introduces piano composers of the 19th and 20th centuries who have not achieved the same level of recognition as Dvořák or Martinů.
In each of the fifteen categories, a panel of experts has selected seven artists, projects, or recordings. The final nominations for the Anděl Awards will be announced in mid-February. The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 5, and will be broadcast live on Czech Television. More details about the awards can be found here.
