Daniel Matoušek Christens Album of Italian Songs
Recording popular Italian melodies is a well-established tradition for young tenors.
However, Daniel Matoušek is not just a young singer; on this unique album, he also showcases his talent as a composer and arranger of songs we know so well from the recordings of Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, and Plácido Domingo (the Three Tenors), as well as popular performers like Elvis Presley, who sang ‘O sole mio in its English version. Even though the album features such familiar melodies, Matoušek’s interpretation, along with the orchestral accompaniment of Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jan Kučera, feels intimate, like a deeply personal confession.
Daniel Matoušek hails from Ústí nad Labem. In his early vocal training, he worked with Jan Vacík, Antonio Carangelo, Eva Randová, and Jarmila Chaloupková. He is currently studying under Kateřina Kněžíková and Adam Plachetka. In 2014, he made his debut at the National Theatre in Prague in The Cunning Little Vixen, and since the 2022/23 season, he has been a permanent member of the opera company. During the 2024/25 season, he will debut in L'elisir d'amore as Nemorino, Don Giovanni as Don Ottavio, and in Puccini's Manon Lescaut. He also performs in other important tenor roles, including Rinuccio, Tamino, Tybalt (Gounod), Daland’s Helmsman, and Beppe (Pagliacci), among others.
