Only Brad Mehldau, one of the most inspiring jazz pianists of the present day, can interpret standards or songs of both Beatles and Radiohead as if they were his own. He takes a similarly personal approach to classical music, from which he has taken inspiration since the start of his career. Following his extremely impressive album After Bach, in which he improvised on Johann Sebastian Bach’s preludes and fugues, he now comes up with a project alternating arrangements of Bach’s works performed by a symphony orchestra with his solo improvisations on Bach’s motives. In the second half of the evening, Mehldau will team up with the Prague Radio Orchestra to perform the Czech premiere of his own Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, which has already been heard in the most prestigious halls around the world, such as the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles or London’s Barbican.
