Michal Rataj & Oskar Török: Letters from Sounds

Michal Rataj live electronics, piano
Oskar Török trumpet, piano, live electronics
Bastien Stil conductor

A landscape of contemporary jazz trumpet, live ambient electronics and symphonic sound

The collaboration of the two musicians builds on previous projects in the field between contemporary jazz and classical music, traditional instruments and live electronics. First it was the Points-Rataj Quintet (CD 2016), which evolved into an electroacoustic trio with the saxophonist Luboš Soukup (Hornscape, 2020). The musical vocabulary of Michal Rataj and Oskar Török extends from electronic ambient through the hints of club electronics to various positions of contemporary jazz and acousmatic music. Michal Rataj’s rich experience with the sound of the contemporary symphony orchestra (Raining Inside, Spatialis, Temporis, Movis) is combined here with the complex live electronics of a post-acousmatic style inlaid with Török’s virtuoso trumpet playing.

Jaromír Honzák: The Blues of a String Hanging in the Wind

Jaromír Honzák double bass
David Dorůžka electric guitar
Vítek Křišťan piano, keyboards
Luboš Soukup saxophones
Martin Novák percussion instruments
Bastien Stil conductor

The double bassist and composer Jaromír Honzák presents his new programme “The Blues of a String Hanging in the Wind”, which he wrote for a jazz quintet and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. The basis of the programme is the composition of the same name, originally written for a jazz and a string quartet on the occasion of a concert showcase of the Animal Music label in the Rudolfinum concert hall in 2008. For the first time, Honzák combines the sound of his permanent jazz quintet with the contemporary sound of a symphony orchestra in his own compositions. The combination of these two bodies represents a challenge for the composer to explore another dimension of his own musical universe.
