Nikolaj Rimskij-Korsakov
An evening bringing together the poetic world of Czech music, Lisztian virtuosity, and oriental fantasy. The programme opens with a suite from Leoš Janáček’s opera The Cunning Little Vixen, arranged by Václav Talich. In this adaptation, the conductor assembled a concert suite capturing the opera’s most characteristic musical moments – its vibrant rhythms, lyrical passages, and the distinctive sound world inspired by nature and the rhythms of Moravian speech.
Next comes Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major, a work that breaks with the traditional concerto form: instead of separate movements, it unfolds as a single continuous musical arc in which the themes are constantly transformed. The soloist will be Martin Kasík, whose sensitivity to the colour and architecture of Liszt’s music promises an exceptional performance.
In the second half, we will hear Scheherazade. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov drew inspiration from the famous tales of One Thousand and One Nights. In this work, he unleashes a dazzling orchestral imagination – the solo violin represents the storyteller Scheherazade, whose tales gradually soften the Sultan and open a world of adventures, sea voyages, and enchanted cities.
