From Rudolfinum to Náměstí Míru: The Opening Concert of the 100th Season
The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra opened its landmark 100th season at Prague’s Rudolfinum on 24 September with a gala concert that symbolically returned to the orchestra’s roots. But the exceptional evening was not intended solely for the audience in Dvořák Hall – thanks to a live broadcast on a large outdoor screen, listeners at náměstí Míru could also join in the celebration of the orchestra’s jubilee season.
The SOČR 100 | PRSO 100 Opening Concert symbolically connected the orchestra’s past with the present. The programme was based on the historic first concert of the Radiojournal Orchestra in 1926, which marked the beginning of today’s Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. Dvořák Hall at Rudolfinum featured Smetana’s Overture to The Bartered Bride, both of Beethoven’s Romances for Violin and Orchestra, a selection of Dvořák’s Legends, and Fibich’s Symphony No. 2 in E-flat major.
The gala evening also reached beyond the concert hall. Thanks to a large outdoor screen at náměstí Míru in Prague, audiences could watch the concert together under the open sky. The live broadcast was organised in cooperation with the Prague 2 municipal district, allowing those unable to attend at Rudolfinum to join the celebrations marking the start of the orchestra’s jubilee season.
The concert was also broadcast live on Czech Radio Vltava and Czech Radio D-dur, with Czech Television also offering a live broadcast.
