About Us

The clarinet is an instrument with many forms. Few people know that without its little reed, it wouldn't make a single note. It is also one of the youngest woodwind instruments. It originated at the beginning of the Classical period, during the time of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was one of the first composers to write solo concertos for the clarinet and to use it in an orchestra.

Since that time, when it had only five keys, the clarinet has been perfected into one of the most adept of wind instruments. It can be found in practically all genres of music, like klezmer, jazz, swing, folk and classical. It also appears frequently in fairy tales, not to mention the film If a Thousand Clarinets!

The PRSO clarinet ensemble is, however, not quite that large. Its members will introduce themselves to you as a clarinet quartet, and demonstrate how this instrument sounds in many styles of music.

The concert will be broadcast live on the Czech Radio D-dur programme.
