Sergei Rachmaninov: The Bells, op. 35
Eva Hornyáková – soprano
Jaroslav Březina – tenor
Sergej Tolstov – baritone
Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno
Ondrej Lenárd – conductor
This time Ondrej Lenárd will be performing two grand works of the Russian classics with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. He will open the evening with the popular Pictures at an Exhibition, an original piano cycle in the masterful instrumentation by Maurice Ravel, inspired by the works of Mussorgsky’s friend Viktor Hartmann. In the evening’s second half, the orchestra will be joined by a trio of excellent soloists and the Czech Philharmonic Choir of Brno to jointly perform a rarely-presented choral symphony, The Bells by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The composer, who is now famous primarily for his piano works, put to music the onomatopoeic poem by the American author Edgar Allen Poe, in a Russian translation by Konstantin Balmont.
The organizers reserves the right to change program and performers.
