PRSO to honour Queen
The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra (PRSO) have repeatedly proven that they are also capable of playing music outside the classical genres with respect. Further confirmation of their musical openness will come in Český Krumlov on the evening of 20 July, when the orchestra performs in the Brewery Garden with the Kühn Children’s and Mixed Choir and conductor Tolga Kashif.
Kashif is also a composer and is the author of the Queen Symphony, a vocal symphony in honour of the famous rock band. We should have had the chance to hear it last year, but the project was literally “washed out” by heavy rain. The organisers have therefore respectfully brought it back for this year’s programme.
The six-movement composition is made up of around a dozen melodies from the legendary group, such as “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Radio Ga Ga”,“The Show Must Go On”, “We Will Rock You", “We Are the Champions” and “Who Wants to Live Forever”.
Kashif performed his Queen Symphony with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall in 2002, winning applause from audiences, critics and the surviving members of Queen. The suite, which is in a new romantic style, also won a nomination for the Classical Brit Awards.
