The first of the concerts in the Bethlehem Chapel will host two young artists, finalists and winners of the 2023 Concertino Praga international radio competition in the chamber music category. The concert will open with Jaroslav Pelikán’s Adagio for orchestra, after which both soloists violinist Daniel Matejčka and pianist Jan Schulmeister will join the orchestra for Mozart’s Violin and Piano Concerto in D major. At the close of the evening, we will hear Tre ricercari for chamber orchestra by Bohuslav Martinů. This 1938 composition belongs to a loose trilogy of works based on the concerto grosso principle and is also one of the highlights of his work during his Parisian period. Martinů composed it for the Festival of Contemporary Music in Venice, and since then it has enjoyed extraordinary popularity among listeners.
