Alberto Ginastera

Temperament, colour and rhythm – this evening with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra offers a musical journey between Europe and Latin America. The programme brings together dance rhythms, the virtuosity of the harp and orchestral imagination inspired by the landscapes and cultures of different parts of the world. The music pulses with Spanish and Latin American rhythms and vivid modern orchestral colour.

The concert opens with Suite No. 2 from Manuel de Falla’s ballet The Three-Cornered Hat, a captivating score full of Spanish temperament and dance-like lightness. It is followed by Alberto Ginastera’s Harp Concerto, one of the most distinctive works in the 20th-century harp repertoire. The second half features Darius Milhaud’s playful cinéma-fantaisie on Brazilian melodies, Le Bœuf sur le toit, and the evening concludes with Ottorino Respighi’s magnificent symphonic fresco Pines of Rome, a musical portrait of the Eternal City.

This colourful programme will be conducted by the Colombian conductor Ana Maria Patiño-Osorio, who is emerging as a striking figure of the younger generation of conductors. The soloist of the evening will be the internationally acclaimed harpist Xavier de Maistre, a long-time solo harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic and one of the leading interpreters of his instrument today.

Ana María Patiño-Osorio

is among the notable talents of the younger generation of conductors. She studied conducting at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna and at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. She first gained international attention with her victory at the La Maestra Conducting Competition in Paris (2022). She collaborates with numerous European orchestras and, since 2026, has served as Music Director of the Filarmónica de Medellín.

The French harpist Xavier de Maistre

is one of the world’s leading performers on his instrument. He studied at the Conservatoire de Toulon and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris with Catherine Michel. In 1998, he won the prestigious International Harp Contest in Bloomington and became the first French musician to be appointed solo harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic. Alongside his concert career, he collaborates with leading orchestras and conductors, and his recordings for Sony Classical have received numerous international awards.

Join us for an evening filled with rhythm, colour and virtuosity. Under the baton of Ana Maria Patiño-Osorio and with the harp artistry of Xavier de Maistre, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra will bring to life music that is both passionate and playful.

The concert will be broadcast live on Czech Radio Vltava:
