This Studio concert presents a notable ensemble representing the Czech quartet tradition – the Herold Quartet. The ensemble was founded in 1998 and soon attracted attention after receiving the Prize of the Czech Chamber Music Society (2001). Its name honours the distinguished Czech violist and teacher Jiří Karel Herold and reflects the long tradition of the Czech string quartet school.
The quartet performs regularly on both domestic and international stages. Over the course of its career it has appeared at major festivals and in concert halls across Europe, Asia, and overseas, including London’s Wigmore Hall and the World Expo in Aichi, Japan.
The evening’s programme presents chamber music performed by an ensemble admired for its balanced sound, stylistic refinement, and sensitivity to the fine detail of musical structure. The concert offers an intense encounter with the central repertoire of the string quartet in the hands of experienced interpreters of the Czech chamber music scene.
