Jindřich Feld: Concerto for Cello and Orchestra
Josef Suk: Symphony No. 2 "Asrael"

Robert Kružík conductor
Tomáš Jamník cello

"Interpreting music is like translating a book. My goal is to put myself in the mind of the composer and give the audience a clear message and an intense experience." Such is the artistic motto of the Czech cellist Tomáš Jamník, a renowned interpreter of classical and contemporary music, now living in Berlin. His virtuoso playing will take us through the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, a work from the late 1950s. It was composed by Jindřich Feld, a popular author and pedagogue whose works were frequently performed in this country and abroad.

Symphony in C Minor, Op. 27 “Asrael” by Josef Suk is an intimate and profound orchestral work that Suk began composing after the passing of his father-in-law Antonín Dvořák. While he was composing the work, the angel of death visited the family for a second time and his wife Otilie, Dvořák's daughter, passed away. "Such a trial either destroys a man or brings to the surface everything strong that was dormant in him. It seemed that I would be subject to the first, yet music saved me..." said Josef Suk about his Symphony No. 2. The evening with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra has been rehearsed and will be conducted by Robert Kružík.

The concert will be broadcast live on Czech Radio Vltava. A recording of the concert will also be broadcast on the Czech Radio D-dur programme every Wednesday.
