Alina Pogostkina plays Mendelssohn
For his second concert of the season, new radio symphony principal conductor Alexander Liebreich has invited the excellent Russian-German violinist Alina Pogostkina.
The artist, who works with conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Gustavo Dudamel and Robin Ticciati, will play one of the pillars of the violin repertoire – Concerto in E minor by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
The evening will commence with the overture to the opera The Barber of Seville by Gioacchino Rossini, the music to which Liebreich recorded for a highly praised CD for SONY Classical. The evening closes with Dvořák's less frequently performed but incontrovertibly beautiful Symphony No. 6, previously called his "First" because it was the author's first symphony to be published by Berlin-based publisher Simrock.
