Jaroslav Bohdal

I studied at the Prague Conservatory. I have been playing with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra for 20 years and am a member of the first violin section. In addition to performing with the orchestra, I compose works for solo violin and represent the Czech Republic in 100 km and 24-hour ultramarathon events. I also compete in pull-ups.

What instrument do I play?

I play a violin made in 1899 by the master violin maker Jaroslav Dvořák. I have been playing it for 12 years.

What was my childhood dream?

If I had not become a musician, I would have liked to be a meteorologist, astronomer, pilot or train driver.

What do I enjoy?

Music, running, composing, reading, astronomy, meteorology, railways, nature, esotericism, pull-up training, strength training, power yoga, aviation and travelling.

Outside my work with the orchestra, I represent the Czech Republic in 100 km and 24-hour ultramarathon events, compose works for solo violin and also compete in pull-ups.

I am the Czech national champion in the 100 km race and a three-time Czech national vice-champion in the 24-hour race. I have competed at the World Championships seven times: four times in the 24-hour race and three times in the 100 km race. In 2014, I ran 221 km in 24 hours, which remains my personal best.
