Concert featuring conductor Netopil and cellist Capucon at the 2nd year of the festival Dvořák's Prague
On Monday 31 August the festival audience in the Rudolfinum heard a programme of works by Zoltán Kodály, Leoš Janáček and Antonín Dvořák. As part of the series Euroradio Summer Festivals 2009, the concert was broadcast by Czech Radio 3 Vltava and radio stations affiliated within the network European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
Journalist Vladimír Říha from the newspaper Právo gave the following report of the evening:
The Monday concert given by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra in front of a packed hall offered performances from two rising stars of the younger generation - conductor Tomáš Netopil, Chief Conductor of the National Theatre Opera and, making his Prague debut, French cellist Gautier Capucon.
We are well aware of the calibre of Netopil, but Capucon, at only 27 years of age, despite his many previous successes caused an almost unexpected sensation in his Prague debut. His rendition of Dvořák's Concerto in B minor was technically flawless and superbly expressive, and had the audience in raptures.
The orchestra also delighted their listeners with lively performances of Kodály's Dances of Galanta and Janáček's Sinfonietta.
