Second appearance in Český Krumlov - this time with Shlomo Mintz (and again with Czech Radio coverage)
In July the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra (SOČR) accompanied the American soprano Renée Fleming, and in August, on Friday 14th, they will be returning to the 18th Český Krumlov IMF to join Shlomo Mintz and Pavel Šporcl in a programme of works by W. A. Mozart and L. van Beethoven.
In the castle riding school the audience will be able to hear the following works:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Don Giovanni - overture, KV 527,
Sinfonia concertante in E flat major for Violin and Viola, KV 364
Ludwig van Beethoven
Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D major, Op. 61
As the festival's web pages will tell us, at the age of eighteen, Mintz added the role of conductor to his artistic endeavours and has since conducted acclaimed orchestras worldwide (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra). In 1994 he was named Artistic Advisor and Principal Guest Conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra (Netherlands). He led the orchestra in a long series of appearances on tour, where he often performed as both conductor and violin soloist. He also occasionally gives concerts as a viola player together with leading string quartets and chamber ensembles. He describes his versatility with the following words: "I think that music is beautiful in all its forms, and that is why I try to approach it from so many angles. It is fascinating that I can present the same musical concept as conductor, violinist and violist."
Czech Radio 3 Vltava will be recording this concert and will broadcast it after an interval of four days, on Tuesday 18 August.
