51st Smetana's Litomyšl will open with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and Ondrej Lenárd
The gala opening concert of the International opera festival Smetana's Litomyšl bears the subtitle "From My Life" after Smetana's String Quartet No. 1, whose orchestral arrangement by George Szell will be the last work on the concert's evening programme on 12 June, performed in the 2nd castle courtyard in Litomyšl.
The programme will also include Symphony No. 4 "Italian" by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Concerto for Trumpet in E flat major by Joseph Haydn, featuring top soloist Ole Edvard Antonsen, and Magic Nights, three songs by Bohuslav Martinů written to Chinese texts performed by the young Czech soprano Kateřina Kněžíková.
The prominent guest of the opening concert of this year's Smetana's Litomyšl festival will be the President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus. You can tune in to a live broadcast of the programme on Czech Radio 3 - Vltava.
