The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra opens the 64th Prague Spring Festival
This will be the third time during this current decade that audiences in the Smetana Hall will have the opportunity, on 12 and 13 May, to hear Má vlast (My Country) performed by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. The conductor originally announced to perform this concert, Estonian Neeme Järvi, who is unable to appear in Prague for health reasons, will be replaced by Antoni Wit from Poland.
This native of Poland studied in Poland and France. He has worked with the Berlin Philharmonic and London's BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has recorded over ninety albums, including Smetana's Má vlast with the Katowice Radio Symphony Orchestra. He is currently Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic. Wit also teaches at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw.
We heard the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra at the opening concert of the Prague Spring most recently three years ago, performing under Ondřej Kukal, and also in 2002, when the orchestra was conducted by Chief Conductor Vladimír Válek.
