Radio orchestra accompanies famous flutist Sir James Galway and his wife Lady Jeanne Galway
This took place on 23rd August at the Český Krumlov International Music Festival, in the Castle Riding School. Vladimír Válek conducted works by Mozart.
Sir James Galway was born on 8th December 1939 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He studied at the Royal College of Music and the School of Music and Drama in London, then at the Paris Conservatoire. He began his career with the Welsh Op.era Orchestra, with his artistic path continuing via the Royal Op.era House at Covent Garden, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, playing piccolo, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, where he took up the position of first flute. In 1969 he accepted a position with the Berlin Philharmonic. Six years later he set out from there on a solo career. He has performed concerts with leading orchestras around the world in famous halls, with celebrated conductors, solo recitals and has given master classes. He has often given the premiere performances of new works (including the Concerto of our own Jindřich Feld) Galway accepted the post of chief guest conductor of The London Mozart Players, has played at Buckingham Palace before Her Majesty the Queen, members of the Royal Family and representatives of seven countries at the London Summit, has played at the White House at the invitation of the US President and has performed at the Nobel Prize ceremony.
His performance with his wife, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and Vladimír Válek concluded the 17th year of the longest summer musical festival of its kind in the Czech Republic.
