Ivo Kahánek and Heiko Mathias Förster, 2. 3. at the Rudolfinum
Last autumn he experienced moments many musicians can only dream of when he was accompanied on Bohuslav Martinů’s 4th Piano Concerto by the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, not once but twice – in Berlin and Prague.
Recently Ivo Kahánek has been going through an intensive period of cooperation with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. In February they recorded Martinů’s 5th Piano Concerto together as part of a noteworthy project under which the PRSO is recording the composer’s complete concertos with conductor Tomáš Brauner and various Czech soloists.
Then on 2 March the pianist will perform Robert Schumann’s Concerto in A minor at a PRSO season-ticket holders’ evening at the Rudolfinum.
As well as enjoying his virtuoso but inward playing and modest performing style, you can look forward to Beethoven’s overture Leonore no. 3 and Dvořák’s 5th Symphony in F major. The conductor will be Heiko Mathias Förster, to whom the PRSO extended an invitation after a joint project for the 2014 Dvořák Prague festival, a concert rendition of Antonín Dvořák’s first opera Alfred, had gone so excellently.
Czech Radio Vltava will broadcast the concert live while a video recording will be accessible at socr.rozhlas.cz and on YouTube.
