Starting the season on a jazz tip
With the wind at its heels, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra is setting forth on its 88th season. And its musicians will be aiming to convince the public of the almost-90-year-old orchestra’s “youthful spirit”, flexibility, creativity and responsiveness at the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House.
The first concert of the new season, under the baton of Tomáš Brauner, promises an expedition into jazz territory. Indeed, the Gustav Brom Czech Radio Big Band will be appearing alongside the PRSO on stage. Pianist Adam Skoumal will perform an “intimate rendition” of Rhapsody in Blue, while other solos will come from soprano Michaela Gemrotová and trumpeter Marek Zvolánek. The evening will also feature the premier of Jan Kučera’s composition Tokyo Pulsing and open with the captivating melodies and rhythms of Leonard Bernstein. Lucie Výborná and Jan Pokorný will serve as hosts.
