RadiRo – a festival of music in Bucharest
Between September 20 and 27, the Romanian capital will host the RadiRo International Radio Orchestras Festival, following on from the first edition in 2012 when the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France performed.
This time five radio orchestras (the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France and the Romanian Radio National Orchestra) will appear in Bucharest, along with renowned soloists and conductors.
The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra (PRSO) will perform twice. On Monday September 22 the musicians, under the baton of the young Romanian conductor and Romanian Radio National Orchestra head Tiberiu Soare, will play Dvořák’s piano concerto with soloist Jan Simon and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”).
The following day the PRSO helmed by chief conductor Ondrej Lenárd will perform Strauss’s Cavalier of the Rose suite, the same composer’s Burlesque for Piano with Romanian soloist Horia Mihail, and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7 in D minor.
The RadiRo festival is organised by Radio Romania, a public service institution founded in 1928, i.e., five years after the launch of regular radio broadcasts on the territory of Czechoslovakia.
