Mahler’s Resurrection set for Smetana’s Litomyšl
The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra regularly travels to Litomyšl at the end of the season to entertain audiences at the town’s unique open-air festival, which is held in the enchanting surroundings of a Renaissance chateau.
This year the orchestra will appear at the chateau’s second courtyard on Friday 4 July. Conducted by Ondrej Lenárd and in cooperation with soprano Eva Hornyáková, mezzo-soprano Terézia Kružliaková and the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno, it will present Gustav Mahler’s Symphony no. 2 in C minor, known as the Resurrection Symphony. The concert starts at 7:30 pm and you can listen to live broadcasting of the Czech Radio 3.
The large orchestra, comprising almost 120 members, is guaranteed to deliver a genuinely commanding performance in the excellent acoustics of the chateau courtyard. Alongside a musical experience, a visit to Litomyšl promises at least one other attraction – an extensive and large-scale renovation of the chateau rise was recently completed.
