Tenor Jonas Kaufmann to open Český Krumlov festival
For several years now big opera stars have appeared at the opening of the Český Krumlov International Music Festival and this year the audience can look forward to the German tenor Jonas Kaufmann. He will be accompanied on 18 July by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jochen Rieder.
For this unique event the organisers are preparing the Summer Stage P2, which three years ago was the venue of a gala evening with Plácido Domingo.
Jonas Kaufmann won fame as Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca and Verdi’s Don Carlos. He has also received great acclaim for the title role in Massenet’s opera Werther at Paris’s Opéra Bastille and as Siegmund in Wagner’s The Valkyrie at the Metropolitan Opera.
