70 years later…
At the Rudolfinum on March 8 a concert will take place within the Nine Gates international festival of Czech-German-Jewish culture commemorating the tragic events at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Between March 8 and 9 1944, some 3,792 prisoners from Terezín – men, women and children – were murdered there. That night witnessed the biggest mass murder of Czechoslovak citizens during WWII.
The programme of the “Concert for 3,792 Terezín Stars” includes pieces by Jewish composers interned at Terezín who were murdered. The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra will perform them under conductor Libor Pešek and in cooperation with the pianist Martin Kasík, violinist Pavel Šporcl, actor Petr Kostka and members of the Disman Radio Children’s Choir, Czech Radio Children´s Choir and Prague Philharmonic Choir.
Czech Radio – Dvojka will broadcast the concert live, while talks are underway as to whether the cameras of Czech Television will also be present.
