Elīna Garanča to get Český Krumlov festival underway

10. červenec 2013

The face of the 2013 Český Krumlov IMF is the eminent, hugely impressive Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča. Her opera recital with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the festival’s ensemble in residence, and conductor Karel Mark Chichon will get the event’s 22nd edition underway on 19 July.

The Riga-born Garanča comes from a musical family and studied singing in Latvia, Austria and the USA. Via the Frankfurt opera and Salzburg, she eventually reached the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Rosina in the Barber of Seville in 2008, the title role in Carmen in 2010). She records for Deutsche Grammophon.

Alongside her name and artistic reputation, memories of her performances in Prague, which took place in 2007, 2010 and 2012, are an assurance of a unique experience.
