New Year’s concert for the Czech Technical University
For several years, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra has been taking part in a pleasant event: a New Year’s concert for the Czech Technical University. This year’s takes places under the auspices of the school’s rector Professor Václav Havlíček on 9 February, once again at the Rudolfinum. Tomáš Brauner will conduct, the solo in Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Concerto in D major will be performed by violinist Martina Bačová, and the programme also includes Franck’s The Accursed Huntsman and Dvořák’s Symphony no. 7 in D minor.
Guests traditionally include members of the diplomatic corps, the rectors of Czech universities, deans of faculty, directors of the institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences and other important figures from the academic, scientific and other spheres.
The Czech Technical University in Prague is one of the largest and oldest of such institutions in Europe. At present it has eight faculties at which over 20,000 students study.
