Dmitri Hvorostovsky to open Český Krumlov festival

The face of the 2012 Český Krumlov International Music Festival will be one of the most important baritones in the world, the Russian singer Dmitri Hvorostovsky. His gala concert with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra (PRSO) and conductor Constantin Orbelian will get the 21st edition of the festival underway on July 20.

Dmitri Hvorostovsky comes from Krasnoyarsk in Siberia. In 1989 he triumphed in the world famous competition in Cardiff. Since the beginning of his career he has been highly regarded for his cultivated vocie, musicality and natural legato. His “Western” debut in Nice led to engagements at leading opera houses around the world, among them the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Paris’s National Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, Milan’s La Scala, the Vienna State Opera and Chicago’s Lyric Opera.

The Český Krumlov festival also offers going on for 20 concerts and performances in various genres. The PRSO will serve as its house orchestra again this year.
