John Scofield, Vince Mendoza, the Danish Radio Big Band and the PRSO!
The coming together of the excellent Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra (PRSO), the leading Danish jazz orchestra and two big names from the world of music promises listeners an experience to remember. The famous guitarist and arranger John Scofield (born 1951) will present his album 54 on January 25, with Vince Mendoza also set to take part.
Scofield recorded the album 54 with the Netherlands’ Metropole Orkest, the only orchestra in the world combing a jazz big band with a full symphony orchestra. In Prague, his musical partners will by the Danish Radio Big Band and the PRSO, conducted by the arranger and composer Vince Mendoza (born 1961).
The two Americans have been working together, sometimes with long gaps, since the 1990s. (Their most recent collaboration was on Mendoza’s album Nights on Earth, which was released in autumn last year).
The upcoming concert, which among other things is a contribution to the launch of Denmark’s presidency of the EU, is supported by the Danish Embassy and is being broadcast live by Czech Radio 3 – Vltava. The broadcast will be presented by host Aleš Opekar and his guest Antonín Matzner.
