José Carreras, Pre-Christmas
The legendary Spanish opera singer José Carreras, who is famous for his unique interpretation of the works of Verdi and Puccini, his activities as part of the star-studded Three Tenors, and last but not least his brave victory over leukaemia, will perform at Prague’s O2 Arena on December 10. He will be accompanied by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Giménez.
Also appearing will be the soprano Mi-Hae Park and the Kühn Children’s Choir, while singer Karel Gott will be special guest; among the pieces the audience can expect to hear are Cantique de Noel, I'll Be Home for Christmas, Ave Maria, and Michna’s Chtíc, aby spal.
During his life, José Carreras has performed over 60 roles at the world’s most famous opera venues, alongside such singers as Montserrat Caballé, Birgit Nilsson, Viorica Cortez, and Renata Scotto. He has also collaborated with no less famous directors and conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, who probably had the greatest single influence on the singer’s career.
An exclusive interview with the opera star was published in issue 47 of the magazine Týdeník Rozhlas (Radio Weekly). For an exclusive extract (in Czech) go to www.radioservis-as.cz/archiv11/47_11/index.htm
