Concert for Help in Support of the League Against Cancer
Famous melodies from films in the genres of sci-fi, fantasy and mystery will be heard at the Rudolfinum on November 21, performed by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the British conductor Nic Raine, and the soprano Yvetta Tannenbergerová as part of the benefit event Concert for Help.
Proceeds from the project, which is organised by the civic association For Help, will go to the civic association League Against Cancer for research into the treatment of the disease.
Two notable film music composers have promised to participate: Rachel Portman, the British writer of the music from the films Chocolat, The Duchess, and The Cider House Rules, and winner of an Academy Award in 1996 for the film Emma; and Jan A. P. Kaczmarek, who wrote the soundtracks for movies such as The Karamazovs and Finding Neverland, for which he also received an Oscar. “The composers will present their pieces at the concert,” said Nikola Bojčev, one of the organisers.
A day earlier, on November 20, the concert will be preceded by a marathon charity film screening at the cinema Atlas entitled Film for Help. On the occasion of his forthcoming 65th birthday (he celebrates it in December), the programme will feature well-known sci-fi movies by director Steven Spielberg, including War of the Worlds, Minority Report, A.I., Jurassic Park, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Ticket prices for the concert range from 350 to 1,200 crowns. People can also contribute a greater amount to the charity event by purchasing VIP tickets. Tickets are available from the Ticketstream agency.
