PRSO under Vladimír Válek to perform at MDR Musiksommer 2011
The Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra (PRSO) conducted by Vladimír Válek will perform Bedřich Smetana’s My Country cycle – twice – at the 20th edition of the prestigious MDR Musiksommer festival this year. The first performance will take place outdoors on Friday July 22 at Bad Elster, a spa town in the spot where three historic lands meet: Saxony, Bavaria and Bohemia. The second concert takes place the following evening in a significant centre of Germany’s social and spiritual life, Weimar.
Celebrating a round anniversary, MDR Musiksommer is this year once again fulfilling its mission of presenting the leading artists of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia on stage with stars of classical music from around the whole world.
Alongside the orchestra, choir and children’s choir of MDR – Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (Central German Radio), this year’s programme includes appearances by mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená, the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic ensemble, and the world renowned Thomanerchor boy’s choir, who are based at St. Thomas’s evangelical church in Leipzig.
