SOČR at the 19th Český Krumlov IMF
The focus of the opening concert of this year’s Český Krumlov festival is tenor José Cura (47), a native of Argentina living in Madrid. Accompanied by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and conductor Mario De Rose, he will give two performances in Pivovarská zahrada (Brewery Garden).
The opening concert will be held on Friday 16 July, with a repeat performance on Sunday 18 July. The programme features arias, duets and instrumental numbers from Italian operas by Giuseppe Verdi, Ruggero Leoncavallo and Giacomo Puccini. José Cura will appear in some of his signature roles, such as Othello, Canio from Pagliacci, Calaf in Turandot or Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca. He will then join Korean soprano In-Hye Kim to sing the duet between Cio-Cio San and Pinkerton “Viene la sera” from Madame Butterfly, among others.
As the festival’s orchestra-in-residence, SOČR will also perform at the closing concert on Saturday 21 August. The event will be held in the Riding School of the Castle where the orchestra, conducted by José Miguel Rodilla, will accompany leading Israeli violinist Vadim Gluzman in Tchaikovsky’s Concerto in D major. The evening and also the entire 19th edition of the festival will be crowned by a performance of Symphony No. 8 in G major “English” by Antonín Dvořák.
