Znojmo welcomes the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and P. Šporcl

The ceremonial opening concert of the Znojmo Music Festival '10 will take place on Friday 9 July. The principal performers at that concert will be the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Charles Olivieri-Munroe, the violinist Pavel Šporcl and the actress Martina Preissová.

The festival's opening ceremony is to begin at 20:00 in the Loucký monastery riding hall. The programme includes Edward Elgar's Violin Concerto in B minor, Op. 61, and Benjamin Britten's Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell, op. 34 (The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra).

The subtitle of this year's festival is "Purcell, Handel and a Goblet of Wine with the Queen of England". The festival runs until 25 July and is held under the patronage of Pavel Šporcl, Znojmo Mayor Peter Nezveda, South Moravian Governor Michal Hašek and the British Ambassador to the Czech Republic, H. E. Sian MacLeod.
