Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall
On Friday 23 April the Radio Orchestra will perform in Cologne with its Chief Conductor Vladimír Válek. They will accompany Sophia Jaffé, a frequent guest with the orchestra, in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, they will also perform the overture Leonora No. 3 by the same composer, and in the second half they will play Symphony No. 8 in G major by Antonín Dvořák.
The Cologne Philharmonic is one of Europe’s leading concert halls, hosting countless numbers of performances.
In the 1970s, few thought that the Cologne Philharmonic building would become such an elegant and exalted venue. It was at this time that debates began on the new structural layout of the area between the cathedral, Hohenzollern bridge and the bank of the Rhine. A museum complex was originally meant to have stood there, but plans soon took shape to construct a large multi-purpose building instead.
The concert hall seats 2,200 people, it covers an area of 2,529 m2, the foyer spreads out over 2,109 m2 and the Cologne Philharmonic premises overall extend over an area of 6,000 m2.
