The account of the world’s most loved and most respected contemporary opera artist Plácido Domingo (70) features 130 roles across 40 seasons. His personal credo – “if I rest, I rust”- says it all.

Thanks to his perpetual élan and boundless energy, this opera singer, conductor, general director of two American opera houses, president of the company Europa Nostra and great philanthropist continues to meet new challenges, and Domingo’s diary is always full of engagements at the world’s most prestigious opera venues.

Plácido Domingo is returning to the Czech Republic after 17 years to become the biggest star and the face of the 20th Český Krumlov International Music Festival. His performance on Saturday, August 20 will feature arias from the operas Le Cid by Giacomo Meyerbeer, Andrea Chénier by Umberto Giordano, and Giuseppe Verdi’s Othello. The second half of the concert will include excerpts from Lehar’s operettas The Land of Smiles and the Merry Widow, along with zarzuela numbers.

Domingo’s singing partner, the lyrical soprano Ana María Martínez from Porto Rico, performs the roles of Rusalka, Wally and Desdemona. The operetta half will also feature excerpts from Kalman’s Gypsy Princess.

The PRSO, conducted by Eugene Kohn, will start the concert with the overture from Bedřich Smetana’s Bartered Bride, while the orchestral numbers will include work by Antonín Dvořák.

The closing and most closely watched concert at the 20th Český Krumlov IMF takes place at the City Car Park at 8 P.M.
