PRSO subscriber evening at the Rudolfinum
A core soloist of the radio symphony orchestra, a young artist who has had great success on concert stages and international competitions alike.
Though who has also not been spared difficult professional decisions (see INTERVIEW) – this is violinist Jan Mráček, the protagonist of another PRSO subscriber evening at the Rudolfinum.
This time he will be performing a concerto by Alban Berg subtitled “To the Memory of an Angel”. The work, inspired by the death of a nineteen-year-old girl, is not easy listening but is a relatively frequently played composition.
The reason for this is certainly its emotionally engaging romantic form, the opportunity it gives the soloist to present themselves, and naturally the compositional mastery of its author.
The evening will start off with a piece with quite different inspiration – the music to the ballet “The Ox on the Roof”. In the composition Darius Milhaud combines the world of Parisian “red-light” bars with music full of South American rhythms, which he observed at Carnival in Rio, Brazil.
And the finale? That belongs to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and his Symphony No. 4 in F minor, which could be called the author’s “Fate” symphony. (This characterisation refers to the distinctive introductory motif by the French horns, also repeated in the final movement, which the composer himself said represents fate.)
This symphony, with its melancholic and dramatically tragic moments, as well as parts based on Russian folk songs and celebrations, will close out the 5th radio symphony subscriber concert with its guest from Venezuela, conductor Christiano Vásquez.
You can listen to it live on Monday, 18 January on ČRo Vltava starting at 19:30. Tickets.
