A pre-summer farewell with concerts at the Rudolfinum
Before the summer, before a time of trips and journeys of discovery, you can set out once again on a musical wander with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra on 9 May.
Romanticism, emotionality, elements of Finnish folklore – all of this is contained in the symphonic poem patriotically entitled Finlandia, which helped its composer achieve renown throughout Europe.

Like virtually all of Jean Sibelius’ compositions, Finlandia too is dominated by dark colours, deeply set. The tone of the music also contains an inherent, almost barbaric kind of wildness and melancholy.
One of the final opuses by the rarely performed Reinhold Glier, the Concerto for Horn in B-flat major, is characterised by its immensely demanding but also rewarding solo part. That will be performed at the Rudolfinum by the exceptional interpreter Radek Baborák, a Czech artist of genuine international renown.
In his youth, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov sailed many seas as a naval officer. His most performed work, the suite Scheherazade, was inspired by, alongside the oriental original, countless experiences and impressions from those trips.
The colourful evening will provide the final PRSO programme from the “R” – for Rudolfinum – cycle. Alongside the aforementioned Radek Baborák, the bravura approach of principal conductor Ondrej Lenárd is also a guarantee of that.
