PRSO with Japanese composers
This concert is the true highlight of International Shakuhachi Festival Prague 2016. An event of this kind has never before taken place in the Czech Republic.
On 5 June at the New Stage of the National Theatre, world-class performers on Japanese instruments and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, led by Marko Ivanović, will present the legendary “November Steps” by Toru Takemitsu and pieces by Japanese star composers Hirose Ryohei and Akira Nishimura, as well as a new composition by Vlastislav Matoušek.
The International Shakuhachi Festival Prague is a prestigious trend-setting event that presents the highest artistic achievements and new directions of the shakuhachi, the ancient Japanese flute originally used by komuso, zen-buddhist monks.
The festival sets out to foster new artistic and academic perspectives on Japanese and contemporary music. It serves as an educational platform to artists, musicians and music students.
Composers, academic scholars, instrument-makers and players from Japan, Europe, USA and other parts of the world will participate in a variety of panel discussions and present lectures at the Shakuhachi – Old Sounds & New Tonalities Conference.
Furthermore this five-day event will include intensive masterclasses and workshops that will be led by professional shakuhachi, koto and shamisen players. The International Shakuhachi Festival Prague, thus promises to be a week of new discoveries that will foster and enrich a global shakuhachi, koto and shamisen communities as well as introduce new audiences to these beautiful instruments.
