PRSO strings set for inspirational setting of Niederaltaich Abbey
On Friday 22 July members of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra will travel to Bavaria, where they will perform with conductor Caspar Richter and several soloists in a unique programme in Niederalteich.
The abbey’s basilica will play host to close to 60 string instrument players, revealing the full variety of sounds that this lineup of instruments can produce.
They will excel in a compelling, sophisticated dramaturgy that stretches from the Baroque era to the 20th century and even includes film music.
The colours of trumpet and organ will join the language of strings on the solo parts. It will be a unique and tasteful programme taking into account both the sacred venue and the great sound of the host, the Europäische Wochen Passau festival, which was founded in 1952 and is regarded as the most important arts event in a region where eastern Bavaria, Bohemia and Austria meet.
PRSO string musicians will perform in the following pieces:
Charles Ives | The Unanswered Question
Arvo Pärt | Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten
Michel Legrand | selection of music from the film Yentl
Leonard Bernstein | two meditations from the MASS: A Theatre Piece for Singers, Players, and Dancers
