Arvo Pärt: Symphony No. 3
Jean Sibelius: Lemminkäinen Suite, Op. 22

Risto Joost – Conductor
Kateřina Javůrková, Félix Dervaux, Marc Gruber, Nicolas Ramez – French horn

One of the most talented Baltic musicians at this time, the young Estonian conductor and choirmaster Risto Joost will conduct the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra in a programme that brings together German and Scandinavian music.

The evening will commence with an extraordinary piece by Robert Schumann, where the “soloist” is the entire horn section, which this time comprises the young and exceptionally talented Czech French horn player Kateřina Javůrková and three other instrumentalists who won awards at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 2016.

Concluding the first half of the evening will be a piece inspired by Medieval music, Symphony No. 3, composed by Joost’s compatriot and one of the most important composers today, Arvo Pärt.

Fun fact:
The second part of Sibelius’s Lemminkäinen Suite, the celebrated tone poem The Swan of Tuonela, is often played as an independent piece.

The concert will culminate with a fifty-minute suite of four symphonic poems by Jean Sibelius, inspired by the life of the mythical hero Lemminkäinen, who is depicted in The Kalevala, the Finnish national epic.

Ticket prices: 440 / 390 / 350 / 310 / 180 / 100 CZK
