The Radio Symphony and its principal conductor, Ondrej Lenárd, team up with Jan Mráček, one of the most talented young Czech violinists, to launch the 91st season.
They will perform the lyrical and brilliant Violin Concerto written in 1945 by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, who was born in Brno and, before setting off on a successful career as a film composer in Hollywood during its Golden Age, was praised as a prodigy by Gustav Mahler.
Fun fact:
Erich Wolfgang Korngold won two Oscars for his scores for the films Anthony Adverse (1936) and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938).
The programme will open with the Memorial to Lidice, composed two years earlier by Bohuslav Martinů in dedication to the inhabitants of the annihilated village while living in exile in the USA. The evening will conclude with the Fantastical Symphony by the classic of French music, Hector Berlioz.
